Lavender has never been the easiest note for me to wear, but yesterday, inspired by my fellow fraghead Lavendula, I decided to reach for Jacqueline once again. The opening is dry, aromatic, and gently herbaceous before a cool lavender accord emerges, softened beautifully by violet and freesia. Here, the lavender feels restrained and elegant rather than sharp or medicinal, which makes it enjoyable for me. Beneath it all lies a smooth base of musk and tonka bean, lightly sweetened with a touch of vanilla. Jacqueline is a fragrance full of quiet contradictions, green yet not particularly fresh, comforting with vanilla yet never truly sweet. There’s something understated and contemplative about it, it brings to mind an ancient walled garden filled with overgrown lavender bushes, worn stone paths warmed by the late afternoon sun, and the soft scent of dried flowers carried through still summer air. The fragrance feels timeless, calm, and gently refined. It wears close enough to feel personal, yet with enough presence to be noticed. On my skin, longevity is all day with moderate projection. To me, it’s a beautifully balanced unisex fragrance, versatile enough for almost any occasion.

This fragrance is an absolute MASTERPIECE! The orange blossom and amber come together so perfectly in this. It’s an amazingly brilliant fragrance in both creation and scent. Since obtaining this fragrance, it has quickly become not only my favorite in my collection, but also my top compliment getter. While terribly overpriced, I’m sad to say I am completely willing to pay the cost because of how astronomically good it is. I fully believe that because this fragrance is absent of any notes that come off as sweet, it’s full of elegance.

However, this fragrance truly captures the familiar scent of yuzu that Japanese people feel a connection to. And it's not just yuzu; it's a wonderful "yuzu bath"! A yuzu bath is a unique Japanese custom, performed on the winter solstice, where people add yuzu to their bathwater for the purpose of "good health" and "warding off evil." This fragrance perfectly captures the subtle feeling of happiness one experiences when taking a yuzu bath, along with the characteristic acidity and bitterness of yuzu. The key to faithfully recreating this feeling lies in the accent of sea salt and the vetiver in the base notes! The vetiver adds transparency and moisture, evoking the image of a bathtub, while the sea salt enhances the yuzu scent. Despite its simple composition, this perfume beautifully captures the experience of a yuzu bath. It gives you the feeling of cleanliness you get after a yuzu bath, and it's a familiar and calming scent for Japanese people. I wonder what people from countries without a yuzu bath culture think? I'd really like to hear their opinions.
