The smell100 Manifesto
1. Forget the Dictionary
The perfume industry loves complex words. They use terms like "Fougère" or "Chypre" to feel important. They write on the box that a scent contains "rare Himalayan Cedar plucked at dawn", when most of us do not even know what a normal cedar tree smells like.
We say: Enough. You should not need a chemistry degree to know what you like.
2. The Democracy of the Nose
If a brand marketing team says a bottle smells like "The Mystery of the Orient", but 500 users say it smells like "Vanilla Cupcakes", then guess what? It smells like vanilla cupcakes.
At smell100, we believe in the Democratization of Scent.
Do not know what "Sandalwood" is? That is fine.
You do know that you want to smell "Fresh" or "A Friday Night Date."
Your nose knows the truth. Your vote defines the data. If it smells good to you, it is good.
3. The smell100 Standard
The internet says this scent lasts 36 hours? Okay. Cool. But what was the dosage?
Did they do a polite 2 sprays behind the ears? Or did they go full "Jeremy Fragrance" on it; spin around in a mist, do five one-handed pushups, and completely soak their clothes?
We propose a new standard based on efficiency rather than vague buzzwords: The 8-Hour Scent Trail.
We do not ask "how long does it last?" We ask: "How many sprays do I need to make it last a full workday?"
- 2 Sprays? It is Nuclear.
- 5 Sprays? It is the Standard.
- 10 Sprays? It is weak, no matter what anyone says.
This approach is on point. No guessing.
4. Experts as Mentors, Not Gatekeepers
This does not mean we ignore the science. Quite the opposite. We are building a home for the Visionaries and Tastemakers who are on the same mission as us: to open the doors.
