what dense perfume this is and what a wall of condensed notes and transcendent borderlessness in Floralcy, Truffle, Fruits, Spices, Woods, Patchouli, Amber, Musc & Incense. and what fabulous perfume this is as I was immediately smitten from off 2006 and either still have that same bottle but I guess it is the 2nd, stemming from the 2010s still under 'Tom Ford Beauty'. I suspect that under whichever formulation, it is impossible to find an unmacerated version, impossible to find a Fresh, Sportif, Marine, Ozonic and all these despicable misnomers used to characterize perfumes (with good right, to each their own, but not to me), especially in the 1990s. this is the ultimate Hooker Perfume where I once also heard, hookers do not use as much perfume as to be undetectable for the wive's of their Clientèle. at least some kind of Hooker uses this perfume, be it a High-end Escort or precisely that Heroine-Lady, they use it for good measure. this perfume is still as Fabulous as it was in 2006 and has a Deep, Super Imposing Sillage with dense richness and Striae of Nuances and nuancelessness. it is impossible to overspray yet two Spritzes is enough as that they know You are in the Building. the perfume correlated seamlessly with Tom Ford's pornographic fashions, either for Gucci (1995 etc.) or YSL (around 2000) or for his own namesake Brand to which he now (2025) let the Reigns of Creative Director in the careful and just as slitzy hands of Haider Ackermann. the precise point of Tom Ford has always been Sinister Glamour. and we have that in his perfumes, especially in Black Orchid and White Patchouli. as the perfume has held her Stance, I am glad to have finally reviewed it already with these Aperçus, the 'Circumstantial Evidence'. the Perfume extravagantly expresses herself and seems to build forth on the notorious 1980s perfumes and then some. some from the 1970s, Studio 54. the perfumes Y of Yves Saint Laurent, Ivoire de Balmain but also the scathing and fantastic notorious 1980s Set of Perfumes. it means a lot to me that at least this current within (Anti-) Esthetics has been given a Plateau to launch such Luxurious, Opulent and on the end of Vulgar, perfumes. side by side with Versace. the perfume even reminesces Narcisse Noire (1911) of Caron and the Chanellissime starting in 1921. such richness and her sinuous presence within the Alcoves of Noireté as referenced in the Venerable Notes of the perfume surely imprints her influence on the Perfume Timeline. to have this abundant Clôche of Scent around me still deeply imbues a feeling of happiness in my heart.

The "Black Orchid"... Where to start? Where does it start? With an immediate enigmatic whirl of olfactory notes that amaze, confuse and enrapture. I feel Amalfi lemon, Gardenia and what is I guess supposed to be the truffle, but it does not have the stench (as you can guess I am NOT a lover of truffles in their any shape or form), somehow it has the spicy and animalic facet, that is blended so brilliantly with the rest. There are a lot of fruits and spices, so the heart is somewhat tropical, but not as in beach cocktail or edible/gourmand fruits style, but a wonderous discovery of a new world of luscious flowers and unexplored forests with hidden treasures of pleasures unknown. I cannot discern the orchid or the lotus in the composition (I do personally believe that they never had a chance due to their gentle and etherial qualities), but ylang-ylang - oh yes!, - it is given a whole new role to play and it is re-discovered and opened up like never before. This exotic fruity freshness, with tart spiciness and unexpected and mysterious notes which keep teasing and drawing everyone in, with questions, guesses and complements, is then followed and masterfully concluded with the smoky bitterness of chocolate, streaked with golden amber, and soft delicacy of vanilla. I view the "Black Orchid" as not the perfume about a flower, but as a signature of Tom Ford's vision, his another black tuxedo that can be worn by both men and women, his understanding and appreciation of the human nature and its expression, his undoubted vision and unrestrained and fearless sexuality, that he taught us all to embrace and enjoy. The "Black Orchid" is an ode to freedom of being oneself and loving oneself just the way we are, it is the metaphysical bloom of each and every one's soul that is never the same or alike, and always, ALWAYS, absolutely irresistible!
