Black Opium Le Parfum

Black Opium Le Parfum

Yves Saint Laurent
Year: 2022

Forget the sugary latte clichés, because Black Opium Le Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent is a masterclass in dark, velvety decadence. Released in 2022 as the most intense interpretation of the famous Black Opium line, this fragrance takes the original coffee and floral DNA and completely drowns it in luxury. Crafted by a powerhouse team of master perfumers, the scent opens with a surprisingly bright and slightly spicy flash of green mandarin, cinnamon, and juicy pear. The heart retains the signature radiant bouquet of jasmine sambac and orange blossom, keeping the profile deeply elegant. However, the drydown is where the true obsession begins. Instead of a standard sweet finish, it features an extravagant quartet of different vanillas (including Bourbon, Madagascar, and Tahitensis) wrapped tightly around a bitter espresso accord and earthy Indonesian patchouli. It is a rich, beautifully balanced powerhouse that feels purposefully built for long, unforgettable nights out.

This perfume is a very pleasant scent, mostly a people pleaser but with a hint of some darkness in there that makes it stand out. My first impression was a fruity, floral splash that developed into a very pleasant nutty note over the first five minutes. Later on came the creaminess of the vanilla and the wood note, a very sweet woody note, not harsh at all. There's a slight cherry note that even if not listed, I can feel it is there... maybe the combination of the nuts with the fruits may explain that cherry nuance? To me this is a lusty, cozy fragrance that is extremely well blended... Such a smooth and delicious gourmand but so wearable at the same time! Nice fragrance, whole bottle worthy, no doubt!

This is, without doubt, my favourite in the Black Opium line — and that’s saying something, because the OG and Illicit Green are still very much in regular rotation. The opening is just… sublime. Warm, slightly spiced vanilla wrapped around a soft, creamy coffee note. It has that immediate “ooh… is that me?” moment — comforting, but with a little lift that keeps it from feeling heavy. As it settles, a gentle woody backbone comes through, but the vanilla never disappears. It stays warm, smooth, and quietly addictive. Even hours later it still feels intentional — it never drops into that generic “vanilla blur” that so many others do. On me, this really comes into its own in colder weather — cosy, soft, and just a little bit indulgent. Think winter days, warm layers, and that contented “I smell good” bubble. Honestly… I can’t find a downside. It’s just beautifully done.

This is my sisters signature scent so, when i think about this perfume, it always reminds me of her...!! This is the only perfume she repurchases. It is a beautiful and captivating fragrance known for its warm coffee and sweet vanilla notes.. The perfume performs well with good longevity and noticeable projection. It’s perfect for evenings, special occasions, or when you want to stand out. Although it is a bit expensive, the quality and unique scent make it worth it. I am not at all a fan of Oud, so this is not my cup of tea anyway.
