Black Orchid Parfum — Tom Ford I forgot how unbelievably heady and dense this perfume was. apparently I have bought it in 2020. this is that inescapable thick wall of perfume, reminescent to the Original, but even more shockingly present and disturbing. not so much for me, but I was taken aback a little this morning. it is the Truffle, Plum, the Orchid (which I recognise from GRAFF's Lesedi di Rhona IV), close to Rose and Ylang. the Ylang in here is smothered by the first two notes, but imposingly so. Rum and Patchouli ain't bad either. with all the storm over Tom Ford here he obviously still had all the threads to hand. calling a new 'perfume' (fragrance, Jus, Juice, a Scent) a 'Perfume' as in targeting the concentration and perseverence seems justified here. after this Perfume Up came the 'Perfumes'. I still remember the perfumes from Chanel No5, Shalimar, Mitsouko, Jicky, L'Heure Bleue in 1974. these were 0.125oz7.5mL for over $150. but actually 'perfume' may be more concentrated and with less alcohol, this brings suppleness and softness. I had bad luck with perfume. because of the slitzy character of the perfume flacon of RUBJ, from Vero.Kern, twice the flacon (and another) slid out of my (male) fingers. and half of $ 240 flooded away.... then this flacon is more practical. Tom Ford stays the Super Artistic Editor, even if he sold his own Brand (fashion & parfumerie). this perfume is to die for, if it doesn't choke you already. (later, today, Oct 10th, 2026) Black Orchid is one of those Ambery Perfumes which, after a while and not even that, also immediately, behaves as if all the notes are merged into one Wall of Perfume. then comparing Black Orchid 2006 by David Apel and Pierre Negrin (givaudan) with what I wear today (and I love them both dearly) I would say that the latter is even more dense and inimpenetrable. but there is a mystery. the Original has a Plethora on Notes whereas the 'Parfum' only carries five notes. the communal notes then are Patchouli, YlangYlang, the 'Black' Orchid, the Truffle and that is it. and yet I can not say the Original (which is phenomenal) is thát much more differentiated, striaeted, subtly aspected into its Myriads of Notes and the Black Orchid Perfume forms that dense, oversatiated wall of Ambery, Resinous, deeple macerated Floweriness, the Intenseness of Patchouli and Rum and the unmistakable unapologetic smell of Truffle less complex, less pulsating, less veering into side Territories as if it contains that much more Aromatic Perfume Materials. they are equally complex, dense, dark, bewitching, intoxicating concoctions. I see resemblances with for instance (still more annexationist, irreversibel, a tad 'wrong'), Gale Hayman Beverly Hills (1990) THE most heavy, heady, sultry, Presentist like a Perfume Monolith, perfume. I have the feeling I can still smell, along the YlangYlang: Gardenias, along the Truffle: Dark Chocolate (and of course the same goes for Patchouli). an Orchid Accord very much acts like a Rose. I experience(d) this clearly in Graff: Lesedi di Rona VI (also 2020). there the Orchid has Oud, Cloves, Blackberry to contend with (in Conspiracy) yet also a Wealth of Jasmine. we can make plenty of Comparative researches here but their all main resemblance is that they are fused into one, thick, syrupy, dark, Alarmingly Annexationist code4-Incidency perfumes. and this is the kind of perfume I am always looking after and I have always found them, since 1974 but much more in particular, in the 1980s of the Satanic Hookerperfumes taking over the world. Giorgio, Coco, Poison, Obsession, Le Must de Cartier, Panthère, Beautiful, Bijan Beverly Hills, Giorgio Beverly Hills Red, Knowing, Opium, Paris, Moschino parfum de toilette, Youth Dew, White Linen, Eternity, Volupté, Ysatis, Amarige, Nahéma, the Creeds Jasmin Impératrice Eugénie, Irisia, Fleurs de Bulgarie, Royal Delight, Vanisia, Tubéreuse Indiana, Jasmal, then also Nahéma, Donna Karan Donna Karan, Boudoir, GEM v Cleef & Arpels, First, Oscar de la Renta etc., etc. 273 Fred Hayman, chanel No5, No19, the Chypre YSL Y but now I digress. I just wanted to emphisize these Ambery, Resinous, Dark, Bewitching, Spicey, Woody, carrying the Fleurs Fatale Roses, Gardenia, Jasmine, Tubéreuse, YlangYlang, Orchid, further Truffle, Oud, Patchouli, and Resinous Spicey Materials as Incense, Spices, Rum, Cloves, Civet, Vanilla, Myrrhe, Opoponax and Oakmoss. plus with all the variations we can think of. the point is this template of me builded up in the late 1970s but primarily in the 1980s. since, every perfume that falls in this amorphous Fluidum falls directly into my Heart. (I can so imagine that this is not everyones' cup of Tea !!)
