pravda 48 is right to mention Barneys list of notes in 'Terryfic Oud' by Terry de Gunzburg. "The base notes ensure that the fragrance blossoms: sweet, creamy and milky sandalwood, invigorating Atlas cedar, intriguing papyrus, majestic patchouli and of course, heady Oud Wood. Cistus labdanum, castoreum, amber and musk complete this luxurious composition. A trail that the perfumer wanted to be "exceptionally rich in woody and amber notes"." Along then with a majestic rose, definitely (a sensation of) cumin and, as Marjon4 mentions, an apparent menthol-y, eucalyptus hush, it all makes for a monolith of a perfume. if people do not smell oud in this perfume, they do not smell it anywhere. yet the other poweringredients not mask, but then enhance, then enrich, then hybridize the oud note. the same we have with the second forceful aspect: that of the spicey, spikey, very berry all suffusing rose which octopuses its petals, heart and outerworldly nectar all perseveringly within and radiating out of this fantastic (terrific) and cruel (terrific) perfume. there is a sweatiness throughout the entire trail (castoreum, cumin, oud) barely toned down or ladyfied by the other more feminine notes as rose or iris. but these are whorey flowers imposing as naughty office hitchcockean Marni's doing their own thang and superimposing everything on their voracious male decentering paths. the pure rose is to be sniffed out (smoked out) by taking a long whiff (yes almost informal, sideways, buddhist) with a nostril at your pulse and inhale in one ininterrupted haul. this also works with Dusitas 'Oudh Infini', l'Artisan Parfumeur's 'Al Oudh', Ex Idolo's 'Thirty Three', le Labo 'Oud 27' and Frederic Malle. Dominique Ropions 'al Waad. Promise': you are suddenly bewitched within this pure heavenly rose elixir temporally liberated from whatever it is it is coating it. Bulgarian and Turkish rose essences enhance a very physical response of sheer delight. the Montales almost always establish this at start to finish.
