My first ever perfume by Serge Lutens was Fleurs d'Oranger. It captured my heart and my soul from the first whiff and I was rendered powerless before its sensual and luscious character. This perfume is most versatile (like many other Lutens' creations), and so the opening sounds different in different seasons. During Spring - Summer it is a white creamy floral with mischievous citrus sparkles that open the composition. In Fall - Winter, citruses and neroli make the first accord, spicy and just a tad on a bitter side, but softened with the orange blossom beginning to bloom in the background. Woody notes are soft and blend with citruses most beautifully. adding the sharper spicy edge, without becoming too strong or overbearing. Orange flower notes steps in gently, almost shyly, but with every step it grows in confidence and richness. It is as if the flower blooms right before your eyes with every minute. Tuberose is not overly pronounced in the cooler temperature. It does bring a light creamy roundness, but is shy and hides behind the orange blossom and the citruses. During the warm weather it becomes an equal partner to the orange blossom, creating unbeatable duet, enveloping you in luxurious and taught satin-like scent. Nothing and no one can get through those two, they rule all around them with power and determination unlike anything else. This is why Fleurs D'Oranger is not the scent I would recommend to wear to the restaurants on small spaces in the middle of the summer or in the tropics, - the perfume will be overwhelming and positively unruly. It still sounds divine, but will create jealousy and murmurs from the people around you. This fragrance has a very good projection and a sillage to match. It seems to love my skin and takes at least 6 hours to melt into it, into what I can call a proper skin scent. It stays for at least 10 hours, and, sometimes, lasts well into the morning. I love waking up to its gentle song of jasmine, tuberose and musk creamy powder. Fleurs d'Oranger will forever stay as my first love with Serge Lutens creations and there always be a bottle with it on my dressing table.
