Théorème Femme by Rue Broca begins with something I least expected: feijoa (Acca sellowiana), rendered with extraordinary, almost photorealistic clarity. Having tasted the fruit, I recognise that distinctive convergence of pineapple, guava and strawberry immediately. It is delectable—not merely a suggestion of tropical fruit, but a remarkably convincing impression of its fragrant flesh. For the uninitiated, the effect might read as bubblegum, though not the sickly-sugary kind: something more refined and airy, with a tangy brightness that keeps it buoyant. Bergamot lends a youthful zest, neither overly formal nor weighed down by a sense of maturity. From this luminous opening, the white florals expand generously. Tuberose is dense, creamy and nectarous, its sweetness carrying a nostalgic idea of femininity: romantic, seductive and unapologetically floral. Jasmine brings brightness to that voluptuous heart, allowing light into what might otherwise become an excessively candied bouquet. Cedar and musk provide a discreet framework, grounding the sweetness while giving the composition structure and lift. Théorème Femme is fairly linear, but not without depth; its appeal lies less in dramatic development than in the sustained pleasure of its fruity-floral radiance. The intensity is good, and restraint in application makes it more versatile than its generous sweetness might suggest. A beautiful, luminous fragrance, feminine and uplifting without being frivolous. Particularly lovely in cold weather, when one wants the sensation of a warm, sunny embrace rather than the weight of spices, resins or dark woods.
