Charlie Gold

Charlie Gold is exactly what its name promises: a fragrance with luminosity, warmth and the vivid gleam of a precious stone. It opens in bright stone-fruit colour—apricot and peach rendered crisp, golden and lightly tart rather than syrupy—while clove and cinnamon lend a burnished, spiced sheen that makes the “gold” feel entirely earned. The first impression is remarkably alive. Fruit pulp sparkles with energy, lifted by spice instead of weighed down by sweetness, and the blend is so smooth that its individual components seem to move as one. There is an impressive sense of intention in the construction: apricot, peach, cinnamon and clove are not piled on top of one another, but woven together into a juicy, invigorating accord that feels both polished and generous. Amber arrives to deepen the composition, bringing glow, warmth and an undeniably seductive undertow. Yet Charlie Gold never collapses into the familiar jammy density of a predictable modern fruity gourmand. Its musk is bright and buoyant, holding the bouquet aloft and giving it clarity, air and a distinctly uplifting finish. The rose at the heart is particularly striking. It appears with pointed precision—honeyed, luscious and fully expressive—adding a floral richness that transforms the fragrance from simply cheerful into something almost tactile. There is a sensation of silk velvet beneath the fingertips, amid the extravagant splendour of a Florentine Renaissance court: golden brocade, sun-warmed stone, jewel-toned fabrics, and the quiet confidence of beauty made to be enjoyed rather than explained. Contrary to what its vintage reputation might suggest, Charlie Gold feels relevant and bright. It is youthful, but never ingénue or Lolita-esque; warm, but never indolent; seductive, but never heavy-handed. Its easy versatility also makes it feel genuinely unisex, particularly for anyone drawn to the meeting point of radiant fruit, polished spice, amber warmth and a clear floral heart. The colour of this perfume is not merely yellow or gold, but the deep, shifting brilliance of a mandarin garnet, an Ethiopian opal, or a Songea sapphire catching the light. It is positive and life-affirming without becoming frivolous—proof that joy can be sophisticated, and that an accessible fragrance can still possess real character, refinement and visual imagination. Joy has rarely smelled so wonderfully sophisticated and democratic at once.

this is a hell of a perfume ! I feel it as a crossing between the (luckily) four times stronger GIORGIO and the exquise CHANEL No 5. but then my story with CHARLIE is still more peculiar, and thus also with CHARLIE GOLD. I love THIS perfume in its own right. it is smashy, flashing, NY, LA and LV together. as a European (Dutch) person I have always loved American perfumes. this isn't either a 'reformulation' of the first, original CHARLIE. yes I have known the original perfume well. I am from 1957 and started ca. 1974 to dabble with perfume (Chanel no 5) and the 1980s were coming. now THAT was my decade. and only the loudest hookers of the lot I loved, along with my mom. Giorgio, Poison, Obsession, Coco, Opium (1977), Knowing, Youth Dew, Bijan, Moschino parfum de toilette. CHARLIE was from the 70s with tons of oakmoss. but that always stayed one of my favorites. if you compare the ingredients lists of both CHARLIE GOLD and CHARLIE, they are totally different. yet they had the same impact. this is a mind lifter. I can (theoretically) imagine someone who hates such perfumes. that is a pity but not my problem. you can clearly smell the peach and apricot, amber, cinnamon and plum. Sandelwood and roses, jasmine and cloves. for me it is a revisiting of the 1980s, but with also a reminiscence to the original which perfume also had an enormous sillage. sultry, bewitching, heady perfumes make me happy. it is as simple as that !

Beautiful, warm, classical, elegant. Embracing, sweet but not in a typically gourmand way. With a sparkling touch of vintage notes like an old diamond ring. Very close to skin and intimate. For me comforting and heartwarming.
