Perfumer: Unknown

Ralph Lauren Romance Eau de Parfum Intense is a smooth, understated woody floral that feels less like a dramatic reinvention and more like a duskier interpretation of a classic rose perfume. It begins with a tart, slightly juicy blackcurrant note sharpened by bergamot and green mandarin, then softens into a green-tinged floral heart where rose is cushioned by violet leaf, lily-of-the-valley and a light wash of creamy ylang-ylang. The real character emerges in the dry-down: dry cedar, velvety sandalwood and earthy patchouli give the florals a more tailored, mature shape, while vanilla supplies warmth without making the fragrance overtly sweet. The effect is polished rather than bold—an elegant, close-wearing rose-and-woods composition with a clean, almost soapy finish on some skin. Performance appears variable, but it generally wears with moderate projection and a soft, lingering trail; best suited to cooler days, the office or an evening when you want something feminine, composed and quietly sensual rather than attention-seeking.

Romance Intense opens with velvety marigolds and bright citruses: a sophisticated, elegant introduction to a composition whose beauty unfolds with an unhurried ease. Violet leaves and lily of the valley conjure the dewy, refreshing breeze of a cottage garden morning. There is something youthful and delicate about this freshness, yet its character is classic and timeless. As the fragrance warms on the skin, blackcurrant unfolds—juicy, tart and well-behaved, lending the flowers a gently mouthwatering dimension without disturbing their poise. Ylang-ylang arrives in a subtle exotic haze, deepening the floral heart without ever drowning it. For me, this is one of the most beautiful and accomplished modern blends of rose and lily of the valley. Dewy and sweet, yet taut, the flowers have a silky smoothness that feels almost tangible. Their delicacy remains distinct even as the composition grows warmer and more enveloping. The woods are young, supple and lightly creamy, softened by vanilla’s cushioning embrace. A light soapiness suggests the quiet presence of an unannounced musk, adding a clean, intimate softness to the drydown. There is considerable versatility here. Easy-going without feeling casual, Romance Intense adapts to its surroundings through the simple measure of application: a lighter touch allows its garden freshness to linger close to the skin; a more generous application gives its floral warmth greater presence. Its intensity is neither sugary nor cloying. It comes through depth, texture and the gradual gathering of warmth around the flowers—a cocooning, enchanting expression of a composition that retains its elegance throughout.
