the oud in this interesting perfume swivels in and out and plays not the domineering role it does and did in the 2010s. Louban, Black Oud, Attar (which turned out to be double distilled sandelwood), Nepalese oud (although that was again slightly different) Oud Purple Roses, but for me always paired with ROSES. now this perfume is a shapeshifter. this morning I could swear I smelled the Montale Rose-Oud violence (which I love). it made the impression of being supersweet and pleasant. comparisons with the original Coco forced into my senses. now this afternoon I find a nomadic oud, with reminiscence to goats hair and leather and camelhubs for them to pause. a musky, animalic smell. I KNOW how oud smells. I love it and it has thousand faces as Ensor taught me. I have a Sultan Pascha Attar 'Douce Amére' (Bittersweet) which is sufficiently strong. I have Oudh Infini of Dusita being a legendary perfume. I have Ex Nihilo's 'Thirty Three' with a thirty year old 'fermented' oud. I have Terry de Gunsburgs Terryfic Oud and Terryfic Oud Extréme. I have 'Al Oudh' from l'Artisan Parfumeur. then also from Juliette has a Gun 'Midnight Oud'. there is not only oud in this Montale, but if it isn't there it says so on his website. (Attar) only the oud in this perfume shifts and changes with the other notes. a deep mentholated aroma at the start. Patchouli ? the Bergamot ? but is the one smell there it shifts to show a whole other panorama. that the Oud behaved like it did was an entire surprise. this whole perfume is a cauldron of contradictions but I find it sublime. what I took for Rose may have been the grapes. and so on. another smashing oud-perfume of Montale.
