Juicy berries, bathed in a light syrupy sweetness, usher you into the garden. Blackberry takes centre stage, enriched by the sugared nuance of raspberry, while blackcurrant’s discreet tartness is softened by a heliotrope veil of fine powder. The texture is exquisitely smooth, a luscious berry accord that wraps itself around the senses with quiet sensuality. This is not candy‑like or saccharine; it evokes ripe fruits crushed between the fingers, their juices mingling and trickling over warm skin. Orchid, unusually prominent, blooms with clarity just before a sugar‑dusted rose steps forward. The Bulgarian rose is opulent yet measured, stripped of its cloying facets, and when interlaced with orchid it forms a heart of richness and oriental allure, reminiscent of the magenta‑pink gleam of a Brazilian amethyst. Compared to the original, Amethyst Exquise feels lighter in tone, suffused with mauve‑rose hues while retaining a purple core that slowly draws the wearer inward, hinting at an imperial violet depth. The base is silken: creamy gardenia and vanilla create a plush foundation, while sandalwood threads through like antique‑gold lightning, adding structure and keeping the scent from tipping into a full gourmand. It remains a refined fruity‑floral with impeccable poise. Amethyst Exquise is more feminine and youthful than its predecessor yet remains versatile and ageless, guided by mood and self‑projection rather than demographics. Despite its depth, it never shouts, making it suitable for day‑long wear in any season, with one caveat: its rich fruity‑floral profile may clash with very clean‑tasting cuisines such as Japanese. Beyond that, it is an adaptable, delightful fragrance that invites compliments and lingers in memory. The bottle is a small objet d’art: in true Lalique tradition, it channels the sinuous lines and romanticism of Art Nouveau, echoing the spirit of Alphonse Mucha and René Lalique more convincingly than most contemporary flacons.
