It opens green, a little soapy and faintly synthetic, which sounds questionable, but honestly? It works. The oakmoss and chamomile create this completely peculiar effect: herbal, lightly raspy, damp, earthy-green—like a very expensive garden after rain, except it is clearly having a moment. Then the white florals come in and make everything more presentable. Gardenia and tuberose bring creamy softness, blending into the opening rather than trying to cover it up, which is very considerate of them. The orange blossom is much more neroli than sunny, innocent orange blossom; polished, green, and just a little severe. Together, the florals feel like one seamless sheet of fabric: smooth, uniform, and perfectly tailored. Nobody seems to do that anymore, which is honestly kind of tragic. Rose adds a honeyed warmth to the bouquet, while cedar is dry, bright, and sharp enough to keep everything from becoming too plush. The sandalwood is fused with amber, but do not expect a creamy, sandalwood-latte situation. It is warm and deep, more golden resin than soft beige cashmere. But the chamomile and moss accord? I am obsessed. It is unusual, memorable, and so distinctive that dissecting it into a neat little note pyramid would be completely beside the point. There is also a tart, sharp detail that hints at stone fruit, though it stays beautifully elusive—as if it has somewhere more important to be. As the fragrance warms on the skin, amber and vanilla emerge in a spicy haze that is sweet without actually being sugary. Woods and oakmoss keep that warmth taut and elegant, creating the most gorgeous tension between the expansive florals, earthy moss, and ambered woods. Yes, it has a retro sensibility. But it is not timid or dusty or merely “vintage-inspired.” This is a full-power exotic floral chypre: radiant, dramatic, and extremely present. It does not enter a room so much as arrive impeccably dressed, take control of the conversation, and make everyone else wonder why they bothered.
