Review of Rose Tonnerre by aad de gids

jaguarundina 05/18/25 03:52 this is my review of 'Une Rose', bought in 2004. when I searched for it, a whole Pandora's Box opened with all kinds of misconceptions from my side. one 'fact' remains: I find this a fabulous rose perfume. that I already had it under the name Une Rose, made that I thought it was discontinued but in the end Fragrantica made that clear. Une Rose = Rose Tonnerre (Rose of the Storm, Thunder Rose). before I knew all this I remembered this perfume as a Soliflore Rose perfume. a Wonderful, Legendary perfume in my opinion. 'wonderful' has a naive tone, 'Legendary' is a quality only in hindside to be judged. I am more for qualifications like Fabulous, Notoir, Rambunctuous, Intrusionist. and this Rose is all. it is handled in such way that you'd be deceived in thinking it is an impeccable Soliflore. yet soon as you've spritzed this perfume you will notice that there is much more going on. and this, 'sub rosa'. Rilke: “Rose, oh reiner Widerspruch, Lust, niemandes Schlaf zu sein unter soviel Lidern” (“Rose, oh pure contradiction, joy of being no-one’s sleep under so many lids.”) we look here into the (search for the felt and pulsating) heart of the rose and it is an endless journey of honeyed sweetness, an elegant 'citron, citronnade' (for me to smell if it is floral), an as Willing as Demanding perfume of feeling at home in the night. it is a deeply Wined, Spiked (Saffron, Juniper, Castoreum, Coreander, Patchouli, Vetiver, Pink Pepper) Rose doubly embedded in itself, a Use of two Infusions of Rose plus Geranium. Truffle smells as Oud can. the Rose always detracts its Eartiness from woods: Cedar, Sandelwood, Vetiver, Moss. I didn't expected to sense, as also see here the notes, of such Turbulent cartography of Notes. the Rose perfume as well loses its Soliflor Aspect as also affirms it in this wide use of supportive of this most beautiful, elegant, deadliest of flowers.
