now smelling this perfume from a flacon of say, 2 years ago. this is a neutered, gutted, shadow of the formidable Grand Lady of the fabulous perfumes of the 1980s. luckily I still have a small rest in the Luxe Vaporisateur, of 2oz60mL, and therefor a refill, also bought I think in the 1990s. you read all the time about wrong reformulations and diluted inept, thinned and emaciated quasi perfumes to give the New Public an idea of how it was. that is why I write this series of in-depth reviews of the hooker perfumes of my favorite decade: the 1980s. Chanel Coco was quite the Madame. that is also why her Daughters are named Coco Mademoiselles. she is the Madame of the Night. she kept all Chanellissime and yet wrought herself in between the most notorious perfumes. she brought Chic and Poise. my mom also loved particularly this perfume. (next to Giorgio, Poison, Obsession, KL Karl Lagerfeld, Knowing, Beautiful, Eternity, Moschino Pdt, C'Est la Vie Christian Lacroix, GEM, FIRST, Nahéma, Creeds Fleur de Bulgarie, Jasmal, Jasmine d'Impératrice Eugénie, Irisia etc., YSL Paris and his 1977 Opium, et cetera.) but Coco that was something special. she was so sophisticated. she had such rich opulence of notes. she was and is (but not the new one) a Floriental Amber. with Civet and (first also) White Chocolat. Roses, Roses, Cloves, Jasmine, Orangeblossom, Civet, Mimosa, Clover, Amber, Vanilla, Labdanum, Peach, Coriander, Opoponax, Tonka, Sandelwood and Orange (which I never smell). this was her modus operandi. to throw the bouquet and back it up with heavy duty base notes. Civet, Sandel, the Resins, Labdanum and the Cloves. this perfume was a fysical sensation and also a Metafysical Event. she was the queen of Rue Cambon. Ines de la Fressange was outerwordly beautiful with her Argentinian French Noireté. the richness of the relentless flowers. th Spiciness. the Amberoide Drapings around who w(h)ore her. Mystical Atmospheres and Room Filling Sillages and with the other 'Ladies who Lunch'. it was a priviledge and gave deft and sophisticated Hauteté. we bathed in it and swathed it on. to be able to distort this Legendary Perfume. I know Jacques and Olivier Polge are brillant perfumers. is it then the workings of the Market, IFRA, a touch of pseudo modernité ? unnessesary. deconstruct and reconstruct this Velveteen Boudoir Lady la Mesdame de la Nuit. she throws a Golden Noir Aura over the 'reality' and as such we could go on. if you only had the soap or Creme Parfumée and they were still in their parcels your whole house was intoxicated. that were the 1980s.
