Review of Oud Excelsa by aad de gids

this is primarily an oud, wood, leather perfume for me. I like it now but that costed me two days. that is long for me. in the beginning I only got (that is with full strength) the oud, pine tar and smokey notes, in fast moving sequences. coffee notes in perfume I NEVER detect anywhere (neither in Black Opium, i.e. three flankers I like, [Illicit Green], le Parfum and Black Opium over Red). and not in Intense Café, which I find a masterpiece, I regret to say I never smell coffee in 'IC', but just this sultry scent of nowhereland. in real life I can enjoy the smell of coffee (100% arabica, un doppio espresso, a Starbucks Moccha). yet what I do smell in Oud Excelsa is the cardamom, which I always love. I like spices. although it is Thunder Flashes all along, what I missed in the beginning, which was like a Montale opening, PANG in your face, is the Roses. in Montale it is usually an immedite Danse Valse of OUD and Roses, in similar strength and stupefying. here there was an opening that compared but sans les Roses. yet now, 2 days later, I smell the papyrus (which I think sits near Cypriol as in Promise (al Waad) (Malle/Ropion) and I can clearly detect, as off 'Start', the oud. the first days the perfume was as capricious, inexplicable as inpredictable. what I love in perfumes. yet now I must say the quality has improved and I can also add I smelled roses, only after six hours or so. (the same with Promise). now I smell this full bodied, Oud - Wood - Spice - Leather perfume whit a rather consistent (what I didn't percieved these first days) projection, high quality ingredients and just a sophisticated perfume to have in that unfortunately designed Barbie Flacon.
