Banana Republic Dark Cherry and Amber opens with a cherry note that feels just shy of fully ripe, which makes it all the more convincing. The fruit is bright and immediately recognizable, but it is framed by a fresh stem-and-leaf nuance that suggests the living cherry itself rather than a confectionary interpretation. The effect is natural and tactile, with a subtle nod to the crisp sweetness of a real cherry variety rather than a synthetic berry accord. As the fragrance develops, the cherry becomes less literal and more imaginative. Cedar rises almost from the start, sharpening the composition and shaping a realistic stem-and-foliage effect that gives the fruit an elegant green edge. Beneath it, there is a faint sap-like mustiness that is difficult to assign to any one note, yet it remains present throughout the heart of the fragrance.
