It opens like a neon sign flickering at 2 a.m.: citrus cutting through the dark, then cold, almost electric mint. Real charge. It arrives confident and doesn’t apologise. Enjoy it — it isn’t staying. Then the lights drop and something more expensive moves in. Clean woods, translucent patchouli, and the distinct impression that I’ve inherited a house I didn’t know I owned: herb garden, cool woodland, a drawing room of cedar and leather chairs older than anyone present. No mud, no growl. This is patchouli sandblasted smooth and taught to behave in polite company. The therapy worked, and so did the posture coaching. Jasmine lifts the heart; geranium eases things towards dry cedar and a discreet touch of leather. It all blends so seamlessly that picking it apart feels rude, so I stopped cataloguing and noticed the effect instead: composed, quietly expensive, no fuss. Which, between us, is the only kind of expensive worth bothering with. Think modern chypre, minus the chest-beating. Someone called it a beta male asserting himself, which is wonderfully pointed. Asserting yourself doesn’t have to mean taking up the whole room. I picture a gentleman wandering a twelve-bedroom estate, enjoying that nobody needs anything from him. It lasts about eight hours on me, strong to moderate at first, then close to the skin — and the drydown is the best part. Relaxed weekends, considered outfits, days that don’t need to become an event. My one complaint: I wanted the opening’s electricity carried through, not left at the door. The gentleman can keep his drawing room. I’d just like him to turn a light on occasionally. Anyone after a gritty night-out scent with bite should look elsewhere.
