"Smells like Aventus" has become a way of not actually smelling the thing. Venetian Blue deserves a proper look first. It opens on green apple, lemon rind and pineapple, cut so cleanly it could have come off a stainless-steel counter in Milan. No syrup. No shower-gel blue. It walks in wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and everyone else looks overdressed. Then the attitude changes. Half an hour in, dry birch smoke moves in and black pepper cracks across the top. The sweetness steps back without quite leaving. Less pretty-boy holiday, more a man who knows exactly how a jacket should sit. The drydown is ambergris, musk, oakmoss: mineral, a little green, clean without being department-store clean. Yes, it shares vocabulary with Aventus. Pretending otherwise would be daft. But this is citrus light bouncing off pale stone by the sea, not charred pineapple. Six hours, moderate for the first two, then arm's length. For niche money I'd want more, and that's the one real limitation. Beautiful tailoring doesn't make a jacket indestructible. Venetian Blue: familiar materials, handled as they mean it. What's the fragrance you stopped properly smelling because someone gave it a nickname? #FragranceCommunity #NichePerfume #QueerAesthetic #LavenderCloudsJD Instagram · @lavendercloudsjd
