M. Micallef GNTONIC is doing something genuinely beautiful for the first hour. After that, we need to talk. The opening is exactly what you ordered - lime, bitter orange, crushed peppermint wrapped around a sweetness that reads like an expensive gin and tonic over ice. Cold, sharp, sparkling. The whole "summer starts now" thing, delivered in full. And then the fizz starts to go flat. Citrus softens. Peppermint cools off. Lily of the valley and orange blossom step in and turn the whole thing floral and gentle. Impeccably blended - clean, smooth, no rough edges anywhere. But for something named after a gin and tonic, I wanted more bite. A colder snap somewhere in the middle. Instead, it warms up, softens, and starts feeling like the last watered-down sips left in the glass. I genuinely like this. That's what makes it complicated. Luxurious without going heavy, skips the usual aquatic clichés entirely, and in humid heat it holds reasonably well. But at this price I want more than pleasant - not louder, just longer. The opening is the version I want to wear all day. The drydown is just a memory of it. GNTONIC gives you the perfect first sip. It just doesn't keep pouring.
