Les Eaux Primordiales has two oud fragrances in its range, and I was curious to compare them. I previously wrote that Oud Superfluide is a modern interpretation of oud. Oud Supermassive, however, is a completely different story. Here, oud takes the opposite direction: it is warm and closer to the classic oriental style. One note gives way to another, and the fragrance unfolds gradually. It opens with a rich accord of sweet mandarin and ripe peach. Almost immediately, a leather accord with a soft powdery nuance appears in the background, along with the fruity facets of osmanthus. As the sweetness begins to fade, the fragrance becomes more leathery and velvety. A warm, noble oud emerges, gradually coming to the forefront. The olibanum note adds even more warmth, resinous depth, and spice to the composition. In the drydown, the skin is left with a leather-resinous-woody trail with a barely perceptible sweetness. I feel that this fragrance has stronger projection than Oud Superfluide and may not be an everyday scent. At the same time, it smells luxurious, multifaceted, and truly beautiful.
