Review of Nektar by Olga Steinfeld

For Pierre Guéros, the creator of Nektar, the inspiration came from a journey to the Middle East, specifically southern Oman. While exploring the nature of the region, he discovered the sacred sidr tree (Ziziphus spina-christi), which is mentioned in Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Today, however, the tree is perhaps better known for its remarkable flowers, from which local bees produce precious honey with a distinctive aroma and numerous beneficial properties. Nektar is a very warm, cozy and gourmand fragrance. At first sniff, it brought to mind sweet, thick resin, syrup or liqueur. It smells honeyed, velvety and balsamic, with animalic facets. As it develops, it becomes slightly powdery and floral, like nectar. By the end of the day, it becomes almost completely sugary and dessert-like, with the soft sweetness of tonka bean.
