I like Rose Ardoise for its combination of a soft, sweet rose and a slightly salty, mineral-like sage. Right after spraying it on my wrist, the first thing I notice is the spicy, slightly prickly opening of nutmeg and schinus molle (peruvian peppertree). It reminds me of taking a deep breath by the sea, when the salty air slightly stings your nose. But that sharpness fades quickly, revealing a beautiful blend of rose and sage. Together, they create the impression of an airy mineral rose. As the fragrance develops, it becomes softer and a little sweeter. By the end, all I can smell is a clean, fresh rose. I remember traveling to Prague to celebrate my twenty-fifth birthday. It was my first trip to Europe, and I completely fell in love with the city. One day, I came across a cozy little Manufaktura boutique and picked up a fragrance that became forever associated with Prague for me - Eau de Toilette 003. Rose Ardoise reminds me of it, though 003 had the same airy rose character, just sweeter and without the mineral facet. Maybe some of you will recognize that similarity too? Despite its light and fresh character, the longevity is surprisingly good - around five hours on my skin. I would describe it as a unisex fragrance with a slight lean toward the feminine side. Although I think the mineral, salty freshness may come through even more clearly on men's skin.
