Libre's first accord is a citrus one, it reminds me a under-ripe lemon zest, even though it is not listed in the notes pyramid. It's got an edge of a stiletto blade and is not as pungent and rough as bergamot. lavender comes close on its heels, slightly metallic, creating an impression of blue Damascus steel in my mind, both linear and exquisitely patterned. The beauty of the Libre’s composition is that lavender is pronounced and one of the leading notes without becoming overpowering or "moth ball"-like. It’s got a green freshness to it (possibly petitgrain and/or black current's tartness), opening up from a new perspective as opposed to what most of the world is used to. Neither does the lavender become the soloist of the fragrance, but an integral part of a well put together choir, each note having its own timing and decibels thoughtfully assigned. Orange blossom and jasmine add white floral accord with delicate sweetness, softening (but never dulling) lavender's sharpness and introducing an enveloping and cosy feel to the scent. To me, this is also where mandarin orange is best visible - in the heart of the Libre, rather than it's top note. Citrusy sparkles add lightness and mischievousness to the composition, ensuring its age transcendence. I also want to note that in warmer and humid climate the jasmine and orange blossom become much more pronounced and thicker (think satin vs chiffon) then during colder and dryer one. Still, Libre is a super versatile perfume and I wore it comfortably in Singapore in +35C without making anyone feel nauseous or overwhelmed. The scent seems to adapt most masterfully to the climate and the skin it is applied to and this is one of its most outstanding qualities. I would not wear it to a restaurant in the tropical climate, but everywhere else - it fits right in without a sliver of a doubt. Vanilla, cedar and musk are a beautiful trio that brings up the composition. I get the impression of a white musk and young cedar wood, elegantly wrapped in vanilla gauze. It is fresh spice with delicate sweetness (and, once again, in hotter climate vanilla will take the lead, so do bear it in mind). Projection is perfect and sillage tends to announce the perfume wearer and make them well remembered afterwards. Staying power is impressive, at least 8 - 10 hours on me, and as it mellows into the skin scent - the perfume becomes a mauve powdery vanilla, sensual and seductive. So, if you go out straight after work, just 1 or 2 sprays of re-application will be enough to have your friends/partners leaning in closer to partake in the elegant enchantment of the Libre on you. It is a new classic if not an immortal and my next favourite in the line is the Platinum which I find a unisex and a most addictive palladium coloured lavender ever made.
